Signing Off (For Now)

Well, this is it…my last newsletter before I go on maternity leave. Going through all this again seems so surreal. Trading my desk for a rocking chair, and my work bag for a diaper bag. It feels very on brand for a year that has been anything but predictable.

Between now and my due date, life has been full in every direction. Colton started at his new school this fall, and watching him walk in on day one, backpack bigger than his torso and excitedly waving goodbye to me hit me right in the chest. I would be lying if I said I didn’t shed a few tears on the walk back to the car. But upon pick up, in true Colton form, he was already mentioning new friends’ names, new words he definitely didn’t learn from me, and a level of confidence that makes me equal parts proud and slightly terrified of what’s next.

I’m also holding onto every bit of fall I can get before the baby arrives. Pumpkin patches, apple orchards, the first flannel-weather weekend, all of it feels a little more special this year, knowing it’s our last round of “just the three of us” before we’re four. Colton is already narrating what he’ll teach his sister, so I have a feeling this fall is doubling as training camp for big brother duty, whether he’s ready for it or not.

And then there’s Christmas. We’ll be heading down to Marco Island as a family of four for the first time, which still doesn’t feel real when I say it out loud. We’ve had a handful of holidays there with just Colton running around the pool deck, soon we will get to experience it with a baby girl in the mix too. Warm weather, new baby, growing family…I can’t think of a better way to close out the year.

So as I step away for a bit, I just want to say thank you, to this team, to our clients, and to everyone who’s read along with me this past year as I’ve shared bits of my life alongside the work I love doing here. I’ll be back before you know it, hopefully with sleep-deprived stories and a whole lot of baby snuggles to show for it. Until then…wish us luck!
