This past week, Rachel, some friends and I made the trip to Cape Cod, a destination I hadn’t visited in over 15 years. We’d go to the Cape when I was young, but I don’t remember much of it. This time, the trip was with Cape Cod enthusiasts who visit every year. We rented a house in Harwichport and spent our days exploring other towns, shopping, dining and much more. Harwichport, was the perfect base for our adventures. Centrally located, it was great for getting around and no drive was too far.
Downtown Harwichport was also a great place to hang out, with many little boutiques, shops and awesome restaurants. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, and we enjoyed leisurely strolls that often led to spontaneous shopping sprees.
Our visit to Chatham was great, with a cocktail at Chatham Bars Inn and shopping in the downtown area. Chatham is a relaxed, friendly town known for its quaint streets, historic homes, awesome beaches and of course, the historic lighthouse. We spent the day exploring and eating great seafood.
One of the most exciting parts of the trip was our day trip to Nantucket. A quick ferry ride made it easy to get to. The island’s cobblestone streets, historic buildings, beaches and lighthouses were really cool to see. We received a little tour from family friends who stay there for the summer, and we ended up at Cisco brewery, which felt like a mini town itself. After that, we explored the island a bit more, walking in many shops and ended the day with ice cream before getting on the ferry back to the Cape.
One of Rachel’s and my favorite things to do whenever we’re on vacation near some water is renting a pontoon boat.” Cape Cod was no different, except we didn’t know what to expect. The boat rental was in a town called Barnstable which was right in the Lewis Bay, also where the Hyannis to Nantucket Ferry leaves from. Surprisingly, there were plenty of beaches to pull up to, which made our day much more enjoyable. We docked at a restaurant and were served lunch right on the boat! This was a great way to explore on our own, stop when we wanted and to also see what we wanted.
What’s a trip to the Cape without some golf? While the girls spent the morning at the spa, the boys took on 18. With an abundance of great golf courses, it was easy to find, but a tee time wasn’t. Luckily, we booked early enough to get on a great course and play with some locals who were able to help us out with the course layout and give pointers on our tee shots.
Evenings were filled with games at the house and backyard hangouts. The time spent together with board games and card games with friendly competition, was as enjoyable as the sightseeing and shopping.
I can’t talk about the Cape without bringing up the food, it was honestly what I was looking forward to most. Let’s be honest, food is always the highlight of any trip for me. Thanks to the recommendations from some of our clients who know the Cape well, we had an array of fantastic dining experiences. Their tips led us to some wonderful restaurants where we enjoyed everything from fresh seafood to delicious local fare.
Great trip, great friends, great food and most importantly, great memories. Till next time, Cape!
